Hair Professional Apprenticeship

From July 2017 Andrew Collinge will be delivering the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standard at Level 2. This exciting and two year intensive course, replaces the current Level 2 framework qualification and has been developed by employers, in order that on successful completion achievers are ready, competent and confident hair professionals.

This course will include learning and skill development in core hairdressing treatments and techniques such as:

  • Consulting with clients and providing appropriate care
  • Shampooing and treating the hair and scalp
  • Cutting hair to include an increased range of techniques
  • Styling and finishing hair
  • Colouring and lightening hair
  • Perming hair.

Further enrichment activities which could include hair extensions, colour masterclasses and
preparing for end-point assessment are also delivered to enhance success. All Hair Professional
apprentices will when ready, be assessed externally with a full day of activity arranged to confirm competence and the possibility when successful of receiving a pass or distinction.

Andrew Collinge Training will support you and look forward to working with you and your employer to achieve success. The new Hair Professional Standard is a more thorough programme than the previous Level 2 Intermediate Hairdressing Framework, and in particular apprentices will learn more advanced hairdressing skills.

Duration of course 2 years approximately

Working hours For 42 weeks of the year you would be expected to be in the salon for a minimum of 32 hours a week. This includes your time spent at college which will be 1 day per week.

Essential items Hairdressing Apprentices are expected to purchase a hairdressing kit. We can help with items and can provide you with a good quality basic kit at a good price from our suppliers. Your employer may also be able to help you source a kit.

Salary Your employer will provide you with full information regarding pay however you will earn a minimum of the national minimum wage for apprentices.

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

An advanced apprentice will work towards a level three NVQ/Diploma in Hairdressing covering a greater degree of technical work than is expected from level two achievers. The course will take just over twelve months and includes learning and skill development to include a greater degree of hair cutting ability covering client personalisation and use of hair thinning and texturizing techniques, more creative colouring and in-depth client consultation leading to increased confidence and the ability to deal with all manner of hairdressing styles, methods and clients.

Often advanced apprentices will have their own client columns in their employer workplace and will be able to make a financial contribution to salon revenues.
